CHARACTERISTICS
Burmese cats carry surprising
weight for their size, their coats being very short with a mink softness
and generally requires little grooming other than constant petting.
Burmese cats have large gold expressive, irresistible eyes that shine with innocence.
With these eyes they literally hypnotise their owners into a life-time
love affair.
DESCRIPTION
The Burmese cat is a medium sized
cat with a muscular frame and heavier in body than its looks would suggest.
The coat is fine, sleek and glossy and lies close to the body. The
body is hard and muscular, chest rounded, back straight. The legs
are long and slender, hind legs are slightly longer than the forelegs.
The paws are neat and oval shaped. The tail is medium in length and
tapering slightly to a rounded tip. It should not be whip like or
kinked. The head should be slightly rounded on top with good width
between the ears, wide cheekbones that taper to a short blunt wedge.
The chin should be firm. The ears should be rounded at the tip and
open at the base with a slight forward tilt in profile. The nose
is medium in length with a distinct break in profile. Face should have
a sweet expression. The eyes are oriental in shape along the top
line and rounded underneath. They should be lustrous, any shade of
yellow and set well apart.
Burmese cats are extremely people-orientated.
Their personality is very dog-like and will follow their owners around.
They love sitting on your lap, cuddling up in bed, either under the covers
or on top of their owner. They enjoy helping you with everything
you do whether it be paper work (sitting on top of them or re-arranging
the papers all over the floor), going into cupboards to tidy up, making
the beds (crawling under the sheets and blankets) and even going into the
shower with you. Burmese cats are garrulous by nature and have long
conversations with their owners. They are great with children and
will play with them and will even learn to tolerate the family dog.
